The French periodical Volez publishes the Cessna 182 SMA first pilot test.
They noticed, compared with a standard 182:
Take off performance is unchanged. RPM at cruise speed is 2,200, which is one reason for a lower noise. Fuel consumption: 9.1 gallons/h. at a cruise speed requiring 13.5 gallons on the standard. Since the standard 182 is already renowned for its long range, the pilot remarks that most users will probably choose to fill only 2/3rd of tank capacity in order to significantly increase the payload. Otherwise the maximal range is 1,450NM! Power of 190HP is maintained by the turbo charger between 5,000 and 10,000 ft. Economy cruise speed seems around 145 K at 10,000 ft. but hasn't been tested at length (Embry Riddle had logged 150 K at full cruise power last year). During landing, the pilot notices a slightly heavier nose. Myriam Dunn, Sales Director, claims that as of August 1st SMA has a backlog of 120 orders, coming first from Australia, South Africa, Canada, Brazil.
