A DA40 diesel owner reports fuel flow at best glide speed.
Henk Cruijssen owns a DA 40 Thielert (135HP) in Europe. Upon our request he accurately measured the fuel flow at best glide speed: 2.8 Gal/h at 80 Kts. Total weight was 990 kgs (2,180 Lbs.)

The Eco-Motors diesel aircraft: a promising new design.
The Eco-Motors is a two-seater equipped with a 1.4 liter diesel coming directly from the automobile industry. Its first flight was in 2003 and it has 750 hours logged sofar. Engine is 4-cyl., Common Rail Injection system, uses indifferently motor diesel or JetA, take-off power 90 or 110HP, with a geared propeller. Engine weight with all ancillaries and mounts weighs about 50 Lbs more than an equivalent Rotax equipment (912S. Range is 900NM, speed can go up to 150Kts in altitude, fuel consumption at 120 Kts is 2.6 Gal/h. It is not yet available in the US. Visit http://www.eco-motors.com

Every month: news, facts, and comments on the coming revolution for piston-engines aircrafts between 130 and 400 HP: Retrofitting a diesel engine to run on Jetfuel or Kerosene, reduce Gallons/Hour by some 30%, eliminate ignition systems (magnetos, spark plugs) and their problems, eliminate mixture control, increase TBO to 2,400-3,000 hours, increase performance between 6,000 and 12,500 ft., and drastically reduce Operating Costs.
